Mahesh,

Thanks for your email You've been real helpful. I shall try this. In the meatime I've a question for you on Oracle 8.1.7.4 (8i) on Unix.

Can I kill a session in Oracle whose Unix process-id donesn't exist anymore.

Would ater system kill session work in this situation ?
Should I try to kill it thorough DBA studio and kill do a post transaction kill ?

I would doubt that Oracle will be able to kill this session of mine if the unix process_id is gone. Actually a row is locked by this hung session and some other process is trying to acces the same record.

Can you help ?

Thanks
-Somesh
