Unfortunately we have 8.1.3.7. . Oracle can touch a file in udump (I tried the command alter database backup controlfile to '.../udump/controlfile' and it wrote the binary copy of the controlfile in the udump directory)
The system only doesn't use it as trace directory, I'm confused :-(
