When creating an index within a packaged application to increase performance. Will the locked down client application automatically benefit from the newly created index?

More details:
When you said packaged application, I presume a shrink wrapped app. You certainly do not have the SQL to all the quesries inside the app so you are guessing about the performance increase.
Test it and if you are comfortable in saying that the performance increased instead of decreasing, then go ahead for it.
Or if you have time, when running the app, go to DBA studio, find the session and figure out from the PLAN if it is hitting the index or not.
