I need to upgrade from 32 bit 8.1.6.3 to 64 bit 9.2.0.3. Oracle doesn't support a direct upgrade from 8.1.6 to 9.2 so I need to go from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 then 8.1.7 to 9.2. Was hoping some people would have suggestions on my questions:
1) would it be better to upgrade from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 one weekend and then 8.1.7 to 9.2.0.3 another time or
2) would it be better to upgrade from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 to 9.2.0.3 all at the same time
3) I need to go from 32 bit to 64 bit. Should I do that before I upgrade to 8.1.7 or after?
If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate some explanation on why you suggest one way versus another. Any other ideas regarding this process would be appreciated. This is on HP-UX 11.11 boxes. Our largest database has about 120 Gig of data tablespaces and 120 Gig of index tablespaces.

I would suggest going to 817 and then to 920 in 2 weekends if not more (weekends 2 weeks apart).

As for the 64 bit part, you can go 817 64-bit then 920. The upgrade from 32-bit 816 to 32-bit 817 and 32-bit 816 to 64-bit 817 is a little different. There are a couple of more steps.

NOTE:
1. Make sure you include both the ?/lib64 and ?/lib in the LIBPATH.
2. Make sure your hardware and OS is FULLY 64-bit compliant.

Good luck.
