I am using Oracle 9i database, 9iAS, 9i Forms and reports. The database is on one Unix box and the 9iAS, Forms, Reports are on another unix box. We have unix application account on each box under the group DBA and the Oracle account is also under DBA group. Up to now things are working fine. Now based on our security team’s advice, the sysadmin changed the group of the two application accounts from DBA to some other. From that onwards, the application is not working and it is broken at several components. I feel it better to keep application account under DBA group. Is there any recommendation from Oracle side about this? If so, is there any document about this recommendation?

Thanks for your help.

it is expected.
speak to your sysdadmins, regarding sharing the oracle executables.
after changing the Unix groups, Make sure, there are required privs granted to new group and environment is set.
Having oracle/sysdba should be the user/group owing oracle server.
We have many oracle installations and many applications
all in different groups.
For a particular database productline, we have also
seperate groups.
like DBserver1 is owned by oracle1/sysdba1
and DBserver2 is owned by oracle2/sysdba2.
